My garage door is rusting at the bottom or around the hardware.
Orange staining may begin along a scratched steel edge, bottom section, retainer, hinge, fastener, track, spring, cable, or bracket. What's actually wrong
Steel is protected by galvanizing, pretreatment, primer, paint, or another finish, but scratches, chips, persistent moisture, salt, incompatible chemicals, and neglected drainage can expose metal. Corrosion progresses faster where water remains trapped between seals, retainers, section seams, or hardware. Paint can slow new surface oxidation after proper preparation, but it does not restore metal already lost from a cable, bottom bracket, hinge attachment, track support, or structurally weakened section.

Can I paint over rust on a garage door?

Why does rust start at the bottom first?
