The garage door opener clicks, but the door does not move.
You hear a relay click from the motor unit or a brief hum, but the trolley and door do not travel. The work light may flash, or the opener may repeat the same click each time you press the control.

Why it happens
A click confirms that the opener received a command; it does not prove the motor or door can move. Possible causes include a broken spring making the door too heavy, an engaged manual lock, a trolley jammed against a stop, a disconnected drive system, a failed motor component, or a diagnostic safety condition.

What you can check safely
- Stop after one or two attempts and note whether the opener clicks, hums briefly, or hums for several seconds.
- Check for an engaged slide lock on the door and for an obvious spring gap without touching the hardware.
- With the door closed, stable, and clear, disconnect it and test whether the door can be moved smoothly by hand.
- Read the opener's LED or arrow-flash pattern and compare it with the manual for that exact model.
Is it safe to keep using the door?
Disconnect electrical and battery power before opening an opener cover or servicing its drive. A clicking opener can still activate unexpectedly, and the door may be carrying uncontrolled weight if a spring has failed.
What the fix involves
The service sequence checks door balance first, then the trolley, rail, drive belt or chain, sprocket, gear, motor, travel module, and logic controls. Fixing an internal opener part without correcting a heavy or binding door would repeat the failure, so both systems are verified before the repair is closed.

Does one click mean the logic board is bad?
Not by itself. A click can accompany a lock, a jammed trolley, a heavy door, a motor or drive failure, or a diagnostic code. The behavior of the door by hand is the first useful separator.
Why does the opener click several times?
Some openers use light flashes, clicks, or arrow flashes to report a sensor or travel fault. Count the pattern and use the manual for the exact model rather than guessing from sound alone.
Should I keep pressing the remote to see whether it catches?
No. Repeated starts can overheat the motor or add damage if the door is locked, heavy, or mechanically jammed.
