Garage Door Problems
My garage door remote works only sometimes.
The remote works from inside the garage but not the driveway, works only when held near the door, fails when the opener light is on, or needs several presses. The wired wall control may continue to operate normally.

The symptom
What's actually wrong
Remote range depends on battery condition, correct programming, the opener antenna, radio interference, and the building around the receiver. Some LED or CFL bulbs and other electrical devices can radiate interference. Metal doors, siding, and multiple nearby openers can also reduce range. If all transmitters fail similarly, the receiver or antenna path becomes more likely.

What you can check safely
- Test the wired wall control first. Normal wall-control operation separates the radio path from the door's mechanical system.
- Replace the remote battery with the specified type and clean the contacts if accessible.
- Check that the opener antenna wire hangs straight and is not cut, coiled, or trapped against metal.
- Temporarily switch off or remove recently installed garage LED bulbs and unplug nearby electronic devices one at a time to identify interference.
- Test a second known-compatible remote or keypad before erasing all programming.
Before you touch anything
Keep the door in sight whenever operating it and keep transmitters away from children. Do not repeatedly press a remote while approaching a door you cannot see. Disconnect power before any work inside the opener housing.

Common questions
Can LED light bulbs interfere with a garage door remote?
Some bulbs and drivers can emit radio noise that reduces range. A useful test is whether the remote works normally with the opener bulbs switched off or removed temporarily.
Why does the remote work only when the garage door is open?
A metal door or surrounding construction can attenuate the signal more when the door is closed. Antenna position and approved extension options may matter.
Should I erase and reprogram every remote first?
Not first. Test battery, range, antenna, interference, and another control. Erasing memory can disable every programmed remote and keypad without fixing the cause.
